Zomato Acquires Blinkit to Boost Quick Commerce
Food-tech giant Zomato has officially completed the $750 million acquisition of quick-commerce platform Blinkit, marking a major shift in the company’s growth strategy. The deal was finalized on July 1, 2025, after regulatory approvals and shareholder nods. With this acquisition, Zomato aims to dominate the 10-minute grocery delivery space — a market that is rapidly growing in metro cities. Blinkit, formerly Grofers, already has over 400 dark stores across India and delivers over 3 lakh orders per day. Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal said, “We want to become India’s most reliable and fastest delivery platform — not just for food, but for everything essential.” The company plans to integrate food and grocery delivery on a single app, using AI to predict demand and optimize routes. Analysts call this a strategic diversification as food delivery growth matures, while quick-commerce offers new revenue streams.
